Case Study Overview

The personal training website, JimFitness, needed a way to share their fitness secrets with those that wanted to improve their workout. It was expected that users would take one fitness session a majority of the time and possibly come back for more based on their fitness level. Considering there were many options to choose from, it made sense to use a shopping cart for the purpose of the fitness sessions (and we used bundles to address multiple sessions). There were also other requirements including handling collisions during booking. For example, as soon as someone paid for a session time, the next user would not see the time slot before or after it, just in case the sessions were at different gyms etc.

Case Study Research

After realizing the personal fitness dream and what it entailed, we decided to use a custom built shopping cart tailored to these personal training sessions. If a product has a personal training flag, it is treated differently than other products where we collect the time, date, gym, and location.

The owner realized they may want to give discounts for buying more than one session up front. We solved this by architecting bundle products. Bundles are groups of products or composite products. Hence, when you click on a bundle, it is easy to calculate the total cost vs. the bundle cost, and make it clear to the user the sessions that come with the bundle. Bundles do not require time, date, gym etc since that information will be collected at a later time.

In order for this to work, it is imperative the user be able to redeem their purchased sessions without having to make any additional purchases. This was solved by having a bundle section in the custom built user section of the website. At the bundle page, which would only show if the user has purchased a bundle, the user is able to click on each product in the bundle to learn more and reserve the session by logging into their account.

In addition, we created a blog with Wordpress and added content pages for the different products. There are also many ways to collect user information including an application for other personal trainers in the area.

The owner was quite happy with how we were able to realize their dreams one to one in the digital web.

Result of The Case Study

After planning the in-depth development at gym fitness, we were able to knock it out quite well. In addition, actual clients will not be clogged up by SPAM. This is because when a user tries to checkout, their order is put into a tmp table (record keeping) until a payment is made. If a payment is made, only then does the anonymous user become a client. This helps the website owner concentrate on important avenues to grow their business.
